Short Biography

 

I was born near Zurich in Switzerland. After studying at Zurich University, I joined the foreign desk of the Swiss newspaper NZZ. In 1986, I started my career as a foreign correspondent, which allowed me to live in six different countries and travel through dozens more, until I retired at the age of 65.

 

I have lived in Washington, DC, since 2008, with a short intermezzo in Brussels from 2011 to 2013. After retiring, I returned to one of my other lifelong passions, which is photography... I am married, and I am the father of three girls.
